AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- A traffic stop in North Lakeland led to a pursuit, and investigators said the driver took off after trying to run over a Polk County Sheriff's Offices deputy.
"Once the suspect's vehicle was stopped, he jumped out and the shooting occurred. No deputies were injured in the shooting," explained Carrie Horstman, the Sheriff's Office public information officer. Judd said Baxley was shot three times by deputies -- once in his arm and twice in his abdomen. He was treated at the scene, then taken to a local hospital. Judd added that the suspect has a long history of arrests and faces several charges in Sunday night's incident.
