John Earnest-Scholar, Athletic, Pianist Charged with Murder in Synagogue Attack
This story comes from The Canadian Press.
John Earnest, 19, burst into a synagogue on the last day of Passover on Saturday, April 27th,in Poway, California, and opened gun fire on about 100 worshipers.
Lori Kaye was killed, a Rabbi, injured and two others wounded. Earnest was also charged with arson with attempted murder and arson in connection with a nearby Mosque fire in the vicinity last month.
But this is another horrific attack of violence and hatred on a place of worship. When will it end.
Today, I want to focus on Mr. Earnest because it is disturbing to me how a bright, intelligent young man could do such a despicable act.
His Parents said their son and five siblings were raised with to reject hatred and embrace love. They were shocked and mystified over this incident. They voiced their concerns over their son’s actions and inferred these “…were informed by people we do not know and ideas we do not hold.” According to the article.
So, who is John Earnest? He was a scholar who made the Dean’s list in both semesters last year at California State University, San Marcus. He had stellar grades in High School. He swam on the varisity team. He was a Nationally recognized Pianist who brought audiences to their feet when he played. Someone who knew him well, Owen Cruise saw him everyday when they both attended Senior High at Mt. Carmet, said Earnest did not show or display dark or racists views. He had friends who were Jewish and Black. His father John Earnest Sr., was a Physics teacher at the Public School that his son attended. So, by all accounts this young man was raised in a loving, caring home. Cruise said “ he was very close to his Dad and he didn’t seem like the type of Person who would go off the deep end.”
Back to the event for a moment. A tipster, according to the article tipped off the FBI some time prior to the shooting event. The tipster indicated they had found a manifesto attributed to a John Earnest that was chilling.
It outlined hatred for Jews. It praised the attacks on the New Zealand Mosque and Pittsburgh Synagogue which collectively killed over 60 people.
Paul P. continues with his thoughts and views on this story ending it with this:
John Earnest, a bright, intelligent and gifted young man sits in a prison cell to ponder his fate forever known “ as an advocate of evil”. Sad, very Sad!
